Scottish Vocational Qualification (SVQ) in Social Services and Healthcare allows candidates to demonstrate competence in job related skills in their particular area of work.
It is a requirement by the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) that everyone employed in a Social Care environment should have or be working towards achievement of a recognisable qualification.
The qualifications we deliver meet the requirements of the SSSC.
SVQ 2 Social Services and Healthcare at SCQF level 6
This is suitable for candidates who are involved in practical hands-on care and support tasks. For example Support workers, Care Assistants, Personal Assistants, etc.
SVQ 3 Social Services and Healthcare at SCQF level 7
Suitable for candidates who would be expected to already have experience and be able to work without direct supervision and take responsibility for the supervision of others. Level 3 candidates would be expected to take some responsibility for Care Planning for and with individuals. For Example, Senior Support Worker, Key Worker, Supervisor, Support Worker Housing Support, Practitioner.
SVQ 4 Social Services and Healthcare at SCQF level 9
Suitable for people who are employed in the health and social care sector in a senior and/or management role. For example, Team Leader, Deputy Manager/Manager
SVQ 4 Care Services Leadership and Management at SCQF level 10
The SVQ in Care Services Leadership and Management is suitable for those who have a management role and responsible for making operational decisions within in a care service.
SVQ 3 Social Services (Children and Young People) at SCQF level 7
Suitable for candidates who would be expected to already have experience and be able to work without direct supervision. You would also be expected to have some responsibility for Care Planning for and with children and young people.
SVQ 4 in Management at SCQF level 9
This is a recognised SSSC qualification for those that have a management role in the Social care sector.
Social Services and Healthcare Supervisor Units
The SSSC state:
“There are two parts to supervisor’s qualification requirements. You must have a practice and a supervisory qualification.
“You must also gain an additional supervisory or management qualification containing supervision or management theory and practice suitable for a supervisor of a care service with a minimum of 15 credits at SCQF level 7 or above.”
To be able to meet this requirement we can offer the opportunity to undertake two SVQ 4 Social Services and Healthcare at SCQF level 9.
Continuous Professional Development.
We can provide Social Care workers with the opportunity to undertake single SVQ units as part of their CPD.
This is intended for workers at any level wishing to update Continuing Professional Development or to evidence competence in a new role
